SHORT-TERM RENTALS (STR)
The Whittier City Council is working on a short-term rental (STR) ordinance to regulate STRs in the city. The ordinance is still being drafted, but some proposed requirements include:
Business license: Hosts must obtain a city business license
Short-term rental permit: Hosts must obtain a short-term rental permit that is valid for six months
Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT): Hosts must collect and remit 10% of TOT to the city
Occupancy limits: Hosts may not allow more than two people per bedroom, plus two, with a maximum of 12 people per booking
Parking: Single-family homes must have at least four parking spaces
Minimum stay: The minimum number of days per stay is seven
No events: No events, including parties or receptions, are allowed
Residence requirement: Hosts must live at the property for at least 51% of the time
The city is also considering limiting the number of STRs and requiring a separation between them while grandfathering in over 100 STRs we already have operating in the city illegally.
PLEASE HELP US CONVINCE WHITTIER CITY COUNCIL TO BAN OR PARTIALLY BAN STRs. OUR HOMES ARE NOT HOTELS.
